Mammoth 0˚F Double Sleeping Bag

Couldn't wait to get to a campground so the day it arrived we pitched a tent in the backyard. Temps reached the high 30s and we could not have asked for it to be any warmer in this bag. Its fill is deep adding a ton to it's comfort. It's huge, so we intend to only use it when we are parked near by, I guess we could hire a sherpa to carry it for us backpacking, lol! Seriously looking for our first real adventure with it, possibly snow, now that we have gear for every time of the year, Thank you Teton!

I panic-ordered this bag when I realized that our Thanksgiving camping trip was going to be *cold*. It is *massive* -- truly queen sized -- and a bit on the hefty side (as the specs say, it's over 15lbs). Still, it was quite warm and very roomy for myself (5'6") and my husband (6'2"). He is an especially restless sleeper when we camp, and he had plenty of room to toss and turn without affecting me.

The only issue really is that it's nearly impossible to get back into the compression bag. It took the two of us a half-hour and two bungee-style straps, and you can see in the photo how far we got.

My wife and I shared this sleeping bag in the mountains recently when the temperatures dropped to the high 30s in the morning hours. The bag is very thick, warm, and comfortable with soft fleece inside - so far so good.

In case you didn't realize, this sleeping bag is huge, more than double the size of two mummy-style sleeping bags. But when we needed to stuff it back into its stuff sack, fuggetaboutit! It's almost impossible to stuff inside. I suspect the root cause is that the man made loft won't compress as tightly as down. You've heard of the expression "trying to stuff ten pounds of crap into a five pound sack?" Well, the expression takes on a new (literal) meaning here. With my wife's help we finally stuffed it back in the sack after 20 strenuous sweaty minutes.

Back home I opened it up and aired it out, but the problem remained. What to do? Others have written about getting a larger stuff sack, but the current (stuffed) stuff sack is already huge, and we didn't want to create yet a bigger monster.

The (sort-of) answer to the stuffing problem for us was tie-down straps. We got four straps off Amazon and trussed up the bag like a Thanksgiving turkey. It still took two people, but we were able to strap up the sleeping bag, then stuff it into the stuff sack in about half the time and half the cursing. It's still a drag and still a job for two people, just a little faster now.
