Teton Donates Gear to One Utah Campout

Utah-based outdoor gear manufacturer assists Utah Division of Outdoor Recreation in helping refugees and underrepresented communities learn to camp.

SALT LAKE CITY, Feb. 26, 2024 – Teton, a leading outdoor gear manufacturer renowned for comfortable, dependable products that are easy to set up and easy on the wallet, today announced its donation to the Utah Division of Outdoor Recreation to support the inaugural One Utah Campout, an event introducing the benefits of camping to 15 families from underrepresented communities eager to embark on their first camping adventure. The company will be donating sleeping bags, backpacks and tents to the participating families.

The campout will take place from June 20 to 22, 2024 at Utah’s scenic Tifie Ranch near East Canyon Reservoir. Participating families will learn how to set up tents, perform basic first aid and enjoy classic American camping traditions such as making s’mores and telling campfire stories. The primary goal of the event is to remove accessibility barriers previously preventing these families and others like them from participating in outdoor activities.

“While most Utahns are able to enjoy the breathtaking outdoor experiences all around us, it’s crucial to recognize the accessibility issues we still need to address,” said Tara McKee, deputy director of the Utah Division of Outdoor Recreation. “With One Utah Campout, we want individuals and families in our local, underserved communities to experience outdoor recreation comfortably and safely. Teton’s donation helps make this a reality, giving them the gear they need to be successful not only during this event but onward as they create a lifetime of adventure and memories.”

In addition to learning fundamental camping skills, each family will receive an annual pass to Utah’s state parks, enabling them to take the gear they received and embark on their own camping journeys. After the One Utah Campout, families will be invited to other activities including a lake day and campfire gathering, using the donated gear throughout their adventures.

Teton is proud to participate alongside a roster of Utah’s leading outdoor companies including Coalatree, Grand Trunk, Park Rx Utah, Scheels and Summit Journeys in donating gear to the event and ensuring these families have what they need to take full advantage of the outdoor adventure opportunities around them.

“Working with the Utah Division of Outdoor Recreation on this project furthers Teton’s mission, which is to help everyone enjoy the outdoors,” said Jeremy McLerran, vice president of marketing for Teton. “We recognize that some Utahns experience trepidation when exploring our state’s amazing parks, mountains and canyons because they lack the gear to easily and comfortably navigate their outdoor experience. Likewise, others face systemic barriers that prevent them from entering the great outdoors, and we are committed to helping reduce these barriers as a company.”
