    Not self-inflating

We tested the 79 x 52 on the living room floor prior to taking it camping and we’re glad we did. After waiting some 15 hrs the pad was maybe 40% self-inflated. This would not have worked well if we went camping and rolled it out hoping for a good night’s sleep. When you first roll it out it’s about as thick as two pieces of cardboard. :) And it stays like that for hours even with the valves fully open and ready to self inflate. We will look for a suitable air mattress pump and see if we can make it work out that way. Stay tuned! Other than that, this is a lovely size for two people, it’s nice and quiet, and we’re still hopeful it can work out for our sleeping platform.

    Great Pad

After the last two seasons using a normal pad for my cot, I was on the market for a new pad. Initially, I was going between Hest and Exped and then I stumbled across the Sequoia. I reached out to Teton, and they answered all of my questions. The first time I used it was nice, but I thought it needed to have more air in it, so I pumped some in and made it firmer. That night I did not sleep very well; however, I had a weeklong camping trip in the Redwoods and Lassen Volcanic NP coming up. This time when I set up my cot, I just let it self-inflate without any additional air. After a day of hiking in the Redwoods, I slept very well. This is probably the best sleeping pad I have used, and it was very comfortable the rest of the trip.

Initially I had one "con" and that was the size of it when I would roll it up to store it for movement. Upon close inspection, I had not flipped the valve around to keep air from coming back in. Once I realized my mistake, it rolled up super flat and was easily stored away.

I would argue this pad is just as good if not better than the Exped self-inflating pads, just with a lower price point. High quality gear does not have to cost an arm and a leg. Hopefully Teton will make one of these for backpacking too.
